Google Photos introduces fresh editing features for its web platform

Google Photos is unveiling a revamped web-based editor, bringing an array of fresh features to simplify photo editing on Mac or PC.

Initially reported by 9to5Google, the updated web version of Google Photos now boasts an improved editor. Among the enhancements, users can explore the “Suggestions” tab, offering preset color choices and intricate image adjustments. The editor also enriches its Aspect Ratio tool capabilities.

This upgrade provides web users with editing capabilities akin to the Google Photos mobile app. The redesigned web editor is accessible to all users, with the exception of the “Dynamic” option, which remains exclusive to Google One subscribers.

To access the new editor, users can simply open a photo on Google Photos through their web browser. An option to “Try the new editor” will be prominently located at the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

The contextual “Suggestions” tab takes precedence, offering users choices like Enhance, Warm, and Cool adjustments. For Google One subscribers, expanded options such as Portrait light, Blur, Sky, Color, and HDR adjustments are available.

A notable upgrade in the Google Photos web editor centers around the aspect ratio editing tool. Unlike before, this tool no longer transitions users into full-screen editing mode. Instead, users will be presented with several aspect ratio options on the right-hand sidebar, including Free, Original, Square, 16:9, 5:4 (4:5), 4:3 (3:4), and 3:2 (2:3).

The “Adjust” tab has been enhanced as well, now featuring a streamlined presentation of all sliders sequentially, departing from their previous categorization into groups like Light, Color, and Pop. These sliders now come paired with icons familiar to users of the Android and iOS app versions.

Additionally, the “Filters” tab, which formerly occupied the primary position, has been moved to the end in the new Google Photos web layout.

Earlier in the month, Google Photos introduced a fresh method for reliving and sharing cherished photos with the introduction of the Memories view, utilizing AI to label photos intelligently.
